Slovak Technical University in Bratislava (STU) is a research-oriented and internationally recognized university-type college institution. Since its foundation in 1937, more than 159 000 students have graduated. In average, 12 000 students study at the STU every year. In 2005 as the first university in the Slovak Republic, STU launched Careers Advisory Centre (CKP) as a part of the Department of Education and Student Care by a decree of the STU Management Board. In the Academic Ranking and Rating Agency (ARRA) in Slovakia, the STU faculties have been regularly awarded the first place rankings. In 2012, the STU received the ECTS Label – the most prestigious European certificate awarded in the sphere of tertiary education.
At present, STU consists of seven faculties based in Bratislava and Trnava. All the faculties provide a study in accredited bachelor’s, master’s and PhD taught programmes. STU is a public university and offers education mainly in technical, technological, technical-economical, technical-information and technical-artistic fields of study using rigorous education, laboratories and practical training. STU additionally offers education in foreign languages in the following areas: civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry and food technology, architecture. The STU credit system is compatible with the European credit transfer system. Developing modern trends in research and industrial production, STU focuses on advanced production technologies, material development and industrial management, automation and IT implementation of manufacturing and technological processes such as quality, safety, and sustainable development. The institution provides globally comparable education, fosters the critical evaluation of information, and advances scholarly inquiry in the innovative work environment. STU promotes entrepreneurship and creativity while embracing academic diversity, inclusion, and the equity. STU prioritizes materials science and production technologies in accredited fields of education, research and development by following the stipulated priorities: – To offer university system of education in all stages in accredited study programmes, including lifelong learning programmes, – To be dedicated to excellence in teaching and academic research, – to ensure transfer of research results into the educational process and entrepreneurial practice, – to contribute in multiple ways to the development of a sustainable, innovative and reflective society and knowledge-based economy with all its activities, – to disseminate knowledge through research and development tools. The Study and Information Centres (libraries), student houses and canteens, sports facilities that include playing grounds, gymnasiums, swimming pools, tennis courts, and fitness centres are parts of the faculties of STU. Also, the University offers musical ensemble Technik for students’ involvement. To maintain the health and well-being of the STU academics and students, available General and Dental clinics are available.
